How to choose barber scissors
A simple guide for barbers, hairdressers and salon owners.
The best scissors are the ones that feel right in your hand and suit the work you do every day. Here are the things to check before you choose.
1. Size
Scissor size is measured in inches. Our scissors are 6 to 7 inch.
- 6 inch: lighter and easier to control. A good choice for detail work, fringes and short cuts.
- 7 inch: the longer blade covers more hair in one stroke, which suits longer hair and cutting larger sections.
If you are not sure, think about the cuts you do most often. Many professionals keep more than one size.
2. Handle and comfort
You may hold your scissors for hours each day, so comfort matters. Look at the finger rings and the shape of the handle in the product photos. Every one of our product pages shows 4 photos, so you can see the design from different sides.
3. Tension screw
The tension screw holds the two blades together and sets how loose or firm they move. Too loose and the blades may fold the hair. Too tight and the scissor feels stiff and tires your hand. Adjust it a little at a time until the blades close smoothly.
4. Cutting or thinning
Cutting scissors shape and cut hair to length. Thinning scissors remove bulk and blend. Read more in Cutting vs thinning scissors.
5. Pouch and warranty
Every scissor and set from Splendid Beauty comes with a leather pouch, and all our products have a warranty, handled over WhatsApp.
